ATLANTA, Ga.---Georgia's top child welfare official is quitting.

Mary Dean Harvey, the head of the state Division of Family and Children Services (DFACS), is stepping down at the end of April.

Her spokeswoman said the decision had nothing to do with a review Governor Sonny Perdue is conducting of the department. The recommendations from that study are due back in July.

Ms. Harvey has served as DFACS director since September 2005.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
