LIBERTY, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say 88 people have been charged
after attending a cockfight in Liberty over the weekend.
Anderson County deputies say they set up surveillance for about
a month after hearing complaints about cockfighting in the area.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Susann Griffin says officers busted a
fight Sunday and charged 88 people with the presence of a
cockfighting event. All of them were ticketed and released.
Griffin says the property owner, 38-year-old Henry Stargel, was
charged with ill treatment of animals and being in the presence of
a cockfighting event.
Attempts to reach Stargel were unsuccessful Monday. A phone
number at the property was disconnected and deputies did not know
if Stargel had an attorney.
