NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.---A hit and run accident in North Augusta that left one man dead and at least one injured is under investigation.
The accident happened around 3 am Saturday on Atomic Road near Carolina Springs Spur.
The Aiken County Coroner says 24-year-old Gregorio Cruz of Hendersonville, N.C. was killed when the Ford Expedition he was in was hit by a 1992 Ford F-150. Cruz and another man were ejected, and the Expedition was thrown from the roadway and down a 40 foot embankment. The other occupant was taken to MCG where he is in critical condition.
The driver of the F-150 tried to drive away, but the truck made it less than a mile down the road before both the driver and a passenger abandoned it and ran away.
This is the sixth traffic fatality in Aiken County this year.
