COLUMBIA CTY., Ga--A police officer fired shots at a suspected car burglar early Monday morning in West Lake subdivision, the gated area between Stevens Creek and Fury's Ferry Roads.

It happened around 6 a.m.

Medical College of Georgia officer Pete Barbara says he came out of his home and saw a man in his vehicle.

Barbara told deputies the man pulled a gun and started firing. He believes he struck the man's gun and may have injured his right hand or arm.

Deputies then found out several other vehicles had been broken into this morning in that area. They think the gun the suspect used was stolen from one of the other vehicles.

Officers think the man may have escaped through the woods.

Officers responding to the area searched many vehicles Monday morning as they attempted to find the suspect.
