GRANITEVILLE, SC-- A Graniteville man is dead in Aiken County's fourth traffic fatality of the year.

The Aiken County Coroner says 47-year-old Michael Marchant died when he crashed on Ascauga Lake Road near the entrance of the Martin-Marietta plant.

Marchant went off the side of the road, down an embankment, and crashed into some trees, before his Pontiac flipped a number of times.

He was partially ejected.

Witnesses estimate Marchant was driving at speeds of about 80 miles per hour when he ran off the road.

The coroner says Marchant was wearing his seatbelt.

Alcohol is considered to be a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology is pending.
