BEECH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Aiken County Sheriff's Office and the Aiken County Coroner have just ruled the death of a Beech Island man a homicide.

56-year-old Henry D. Freeman of 1020 Beechdale Drive is identified by investigators as the victim.

Lt. Michael Frank with the Sheriff's Office says Freeman was found lying face down outside of the Hilltop Club in Beech Island, around 5:40 this morning by a man walking in the area.

Lt. Frank says a preliminary investigation shows Freeman suffered head trauma, but his cause of death is still under investigation.

An autopsy today in Newberry, S.C. confirmed that Freeman was murdered.

Investigators have not released any details about a possible suspect, motive, or timeline of events as to how and when Freeman's body ended up outside of the club.
