A longtime Richmond County sheriff's deputy is moving to the coroner's office.
Johnny McDonald is becoming a deputy coroner. He replaces Charlena Graham. She was fired after being charged with taking gift cards from a suicide victim's belongings.
McDonald is a veteran road patrol officer. He told News 12, "When you're born, you have a birth certificate, and when you die you have a death certificate. We try to get to the bottom of any death."
McDonald joins former sheriff's investigator Mark Bowen as a deputy
coroner. They'll work with Coroner Grover Tuten.
The coroner's office is responsible for looking into several types of deaths and making rulings on the causes.
