LAGRANGE, Ga.---Family members say an Army sergeant from LaGrange was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq, shortly after his first wedding anniversary.

Relatives told the LaGrange Daily News that Sgt. Corey Spates, 21, died
Sunday of wounds suffered in the incident.

The family says they have been told there were multiple casualties in the blast, but the Army is not confirming details until all the next of kin have been notified.

Sgt. Spates attended Troupe High School, and left for his second deployment in November.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
