When it comes burn victims, blood is in high demand.
Burn victims need a lot of blood and platelets to help them get through the many surgeries and transfusions they have to go through during their recovery.
The Shepeard Blood Center locations in the Augusta area are ready to meet that need, but they need your help.
The Blood Center says Type O negative blood is a big need, but platelets are the top priority during the immediate hours and days after the wounds occur.
Platelets help clot wounds and can help heal wounds, while the whole blood fills the need for fluids that are lost during surgery.
You can help by donating at any of the Shepeard Blood Center locations.
But platelets can only be donated at the follow locations:
1) 1533 Wrightsboro Road
August, GA 30904
2) 460 North Bel Air Road
Evans, GA 30809
Both of those locations will also be open for special hours on Saturday, February 9 from 8am to 2pm.
