AIKEN, S.C.---A man being held in the Aiken County Detention Center died early this morning.
The Coroner's office identified him as Donnie R. Abney, 57, of Warrenville. He was found unresponsive in his cell Monday morning.
Mr. Abney had been in jail since January 27th on DUI charges.
An autopsy was performed and the results show he died of natural causes. His cause of death was respiratory insufficiency due to a seizure from delirium tremors. Family members said he had struggled with alcoholism for years.
The investigation was handled by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Aiken County Coroner's Office, which is standard in these types of cases. It showed no evidence of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
