Day care closed

Small Wonders Day Care, 229 N. Belair Rd., in Evans is closed today. That's because a hit and run driver damaged the building Monday night.

Governor pushes tougher laws

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is touring the state to push his legislative agenda before the General Assembly. It includes making it easier for small businesses to provide health care to workers, tougher
D-U-I laws and stopping illegal immigration. State lawmakers will have to act on any of these proposals.

Georgia dogfighting bill

In Georgia, a bill to make the dogfighting laws tougher has passed the
House and is now in the Senate. The Senate passed a similar bill last year. It would allow prosecutors to charge spectators at a dog fight with a misdemeanor. Running or hosting a dog fight would be a felony.

Robber strikes in Aiken

In Aiken, Public Safety officers are looking for a robber. A man driving a white, two-door car robbed a woman at gunpoint at her southside home last Thursday night.

New Gold's Gym location in North Augusta

From the Buzz on Biz, Gold's Gym has now opened a 24-hour location in North Augusta. It's in the same center as the old Wal-Mart off Highway 25.

ASU loses at home

In sports, Augusta State's nationally ranked men's basketball team lost at home Monday night. North Georgia won 75 to 71. This was ASU's first home loss of the season, and the coach was so upset he pulled his starting five and replaced them with reserves.
