AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A long-awaited announcement from Cpt. Scott Peebles is finally official.
Dozens gathered Monday morning as Peebles announced he is running to be the next sheriff of Richmond County.
News 12 sat down with Peebles two weeks ago when he hinted at a run for the spot.
He is currently captain of the Criminal Investigations Division, which opens an average of 3,000 cases a month.
Current Sheriff Ronnie Strength announced on Friday he would be stepping down.
