WAYNESBORO, Ga.---71-year-old Martha Eubanks is in critical condition at MCG after being shot in the stomach during what investigators say may have been a burglary attempt.
The Burke County Sheriff's office took two teenagers into custody Tuesday, not far from the crime scene at 5087 River Road in Waynesboro, Ga.
Deputies say Eubanks was in her Burke County home around 12 pm when she heard noises coming from her shed. When she opened the door, investigators say she saw two suspects attempting to steal items from it; that's when they say Eubanks quickly shut the door, but gunshots were fired through the closed door striking her in the stomach.
Eubanks was able to make it to a phone and call 911.
Deputies set up a perimeter and about 10-15 law enforcement officers from the Burke County Sheriff's Office and the GBI searched nearby woods with tracking dogs, following footprints.
Investigators say the two suspects were found less than a 1/2 mile from the crime scene, watching the search unfold from the road, they were taken into custody and later charged.
19-year-old Deandre Wesby and a 16-year-old juvenile, who's name has not been released are both charged with Aggravated Assault.
Investigators say a radio and some copper wire were found in some nearby woods, believed to have come from Eubanks' shed.
Both teens had no prior criminal record. A third suspect was questioned, but was not charged in the case. Investigators say there is a possibility of more suspects being arrested, and additional charges against the two teens already in custody.
Sgt. Dedrick Smith with the Burke County Sheriff's Office says Eubanks' condition is "very critical" and if she dies, the teens will face murder charges.
