Three local counties are getting money thanks to Savannah River Site.

The US Department of Energy has agreed to nearly double the money it pays for using the land where SRS is located.

Uncle Sam doesn't pay property taxes. However, Aiken, Barnwell and Allendale counties will split over $6 million in land use fees.

That's double the previous agreement from 20 years ago.

Most of the land is in Barnwell County, so that county gets most of the money.
