Celebrating Dr. King

Today is the day set aside to honor the life and accomplishments of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Local schools, banks, and government offices, such as post offices, are closed today for the holiday, but there are a number of celebrations in the area to mark the day.

Georgia Power Employees will volunteer at Sego Middle School, working on interior and exterior improvement projects for free.
They say it's in remembrance Dr King, who dedicated his life to the service of others.

New Order and Operation Lead are also joining together in a "March for Justice."
They will meet in front of the Federal Courthouse in downtown Augusta.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference is hosting a luncheon at Beulah Grove Baptist Church.

The NAACP is also sponsoring a rally at the Statehouse in Columbia.
The day kicked off with a prayer breakfast and service at Zion Baptist Church.
