AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Sources in law enforcement say the suspect in an Aiken officer killing is now charged with murder in Richmond County.

Joshua Jones, 26, is accused of shooting girlfriend Cayce Vice in the head Saturday morning in her apartment on Washington Road. The 21-year-old was five weeks pregnant.

Vice worked at the Five Guys on Washington Road near Alexander Drive. Her employer became suspicious when she did not show up to work at 10 a.m.

Her father, Howard Vice, said he used to live with Cayce and when Jones moved in, he moved out. He said there has been some abuse in the relationship and that last week, she went to the hospital to get treated after Jones allegedly beat her up.

"She was a good kid, she really was. She had her morals straightened out," he said in an interview with News 12 on Saturday. "She just fell in love with the wrong person."

Jones was found later that day by Master Cpl. Sandy Rogers, when she was called out to reports of a suspicious vehicle in Aiken. When Rogers approached his car, he allegedly shot her. Rogers later died at the hospital.

He was tracked down and taken into custody in Batesburg, S.C.

Jone is currently being held in Aiken County, charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is on hold for Richmond County for murder and two weapons charges.
