Man escapes fire that ravages his home

AUGUSTA, Ga.---Richmond County Deputies respond to a house fire Wednesday night.

The fire broke out around 8 o'clock at 2425 Turkey Trail. That's off Windsor Spring Road in Augusta.

When firefighters got to the house it was about 60 percent engulfed in flames.

The home owner was at home and was sleeping when the fire started. The smoke woke him up.

He opened his bedroom door and saw flames but was able to escape out the back door.

He was not injured but the house was extensively damaged.

There's no word on how the fire started, but firefighters say it appeared to be accidental.
