New route proposed for "I-3"

January 7, 2008

Rep. Paul Broun says he has a plan to keep a proposed north-south highway from cutting through the north Georgia mountains while still bringing economic benefits to Augusta and Savannah.

A proposed road, informally dubbed "I-3", that would run through Savannah, Augusta, and Knoxville, Tennessee has been debated for years. Groups protesting the idea are afraid the new road would destroy the beauty of north Georgia.

Broun, who previously opposed the road entirely, now proposes that the new road run through South Carolina instead of north Georgia.
