Gilbert Manor-MCG Meeting

People who live in the Gilbert Manor public housing project in downtown Augusta could learn today if they will have to move.

The Augusta Housing Authority is meeting this morning to discuss plans to sell Gilbert Manor to MCG.

MCG wants the land so it can expand.

Clothes Drive Today

The Lord and Savior Ministries World Wide Inc. is having a clothes giveaway all day today. The church is located at 2507 Meadowbrook Drive in Augusta.

The drive starts at 10:00 this morning and ends at 7:00 tonight.

Volunteers say they have clothes for all sizes.

Everyone is welcome.

Toy Giveaway

A downtown holiday tradition continues this weekend at Antique World on Broad Street in Augusta. The toy giveaway starts at 9:00 Saturday morning.

Santa will be there to hand out toys to the children. There's also a clothes giveaway for adults scheduled for the 29th.

Christmas Packages Deadline

If you've been putting off sending out those gifts, you can still get them where they need to go by Christmas day. It's going to cost you, though.

Tomorrow is the last day to ship packages by express mail to make sure they arrive by the holiday.

Remembering Murphy

Many will have the chance to say goodbye and pay their respects to a former Georgia House speaker. Tom Murphy will have a memorial service this morning and then lie in state at the capital from 12:00 to 4:00 this afternoon.

Murphy died Monday after complications from a stroke three years earlier.

He was the longest serving house speaker in the nation's history when he was defeated in 2002.

Murphy was 83 years old.

Students Wanted for Shooting at a Deputy

Deputies arrested Keith Williams last night. He was one of five students wanted for shooting at a deputy.

Reginald Gaines and Kennard Thomas had already turned themselves in.

Deputies arrested Michael Young Wednesday with the help of school police at Hephzibah High.

Cordell Samuels was arrested earlier this month at Silver Bluff High School.

Investigators say all were involved in shots being fired at a deputy December 1.
