Better response times for deputies

December 13, 2007

Columbia County deputies can now get to you much faster in an emergency. They now have a new global positioning system that allows dispatchers to know where each deputy is at all times. That way, they can send the deputy closest to the scene of an accident or crime.

Captain Bill Probus believes, "Response times should drop dramatically, and it's all done in an effort to better serve the citizens of the county, to get them help more quickly, more effectively, and more efficiently."

In January, people will also be able to report minor incidents over the phone, giving deputies more time to respond to emergency calls.
