Thief dies stealing copper

December 11, 2007

Stealing copper could do more than just land you in jail. It could cost you your life. Friends of a 21-year-old man say he was he was electrocuted as he tried to steal copper wire in Orangeburg County.

Paramedics found Patrick Taylor at a gas station Friday after his friends called 911. He died a short time later at the hospital.

Deputies say the friends followed the ambulance to the hospital but left before investigators could talk to them.

What the hell was this guy thinking? "I think I will steal this copper, the watts won't kill me and I can make some extra cash for the holidays". Yeah, dummy, the watts may not kill you,but the amps sure will and cook your insides to boot. Sheesh. Another story for "Dumb Crook News".

This story is sad on so many levels. From the tragic loss of a young life; life lost while stealing at Christmas; to his friends not even sticking around to see the outcome.
