McCain Visits North Augusta Today

We're less than two months away from South Carolina's primary, and a presidential hopeful is making a visit to North Augusta to earn your vote. Republican John McCain will be at Al's Family Restaurant on Atomic Road at 11:45. It's free and open to the public. From there, he'll move on to the Center for Hydrogen Research near the Savannah River Site for a speech at 2:00.

Obama-Oprah Combo Draws 29,000

Senator Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey's visit to Columbia, South Carolina drew around 29,000 people. The two held a rally Sunday at Williams Brice Stadium at the University of South Carolina. This is the first time Oprah has ever endorsed a candidate.

Sheriff buries Son Today

Family and friends are saying goodbye to the Richmond County Sheriff's son. The funeral for Sheriff Ronnie Strength's son, Todd Strength, is at Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Home on Davis Road at 2:00 today. He was found dead Thursday morning at his home. The coroner says he died a natural. Todd Strength was 30-years-old.

Aiken Fatal Accidents Climb to 43

After a deadly weekend on Aiken County roads, the number of fatal accidents this year in the county has climbed to 43. Three people lost their lives in two separate accidents Saturday. The first happened on Rainbow Falls Road in Graniteville. 23-year-old Christopher Pitchett of Warrenville was killed when he crashed into an embankment.
The other two fatalities come from a fiery crash on Dibble Road.
The coroner says 40-year-old Johnnie Mathis and 35-year-old Thomas Sellars, both of Augusta, were killed when the car caught fire.
They were passengers. Another passenger, Cleveland Scott, is in serious condition. The driver, 26-year-old Joey Brown, Jr. of Hephzibah suffered only minor injuries. Brown is charged with two counts of felony DUI with great bodily injury.

Richmond Fatal

An accident in Richmond County claims the life of a Martinez woman.
The deputy coroner says Georgann White of Martinez died Saturday when she hit a cement barrier on I-20 near exit 196. Her car flipped, and she was ejected.

Airport Update

The new terminal at the Augusta Regional Airport is open this morning. Crews are now finished with Phase Three. They are now working on Phase Four, which includes taking down the temporary facilities. Workers will also now start landscaping the area. This part of the project should last around four months.
