Commission Election Results

There are some new faces on the Augusta Commission after Tuesday's runoff elections. Corey Johnson won the District 2 seat with 786 votes, defeating former Commissioner Freddie Handy, who got 718 votes. In District 4, incumbent Bernard Harper is on the way out. Alvin Mason got 926 votes to Harper's 724 votes. Both winners will take office in January.

Obama-Oprah Combo Coming to Columbia

Senator Barack Obama is bringing his presidential campaign to South Carolina this weekend, but he's not coming alone. He's bringing Oprah Winfrey with him. The two will hold a rally in Columbia Sunday, and already, tickets are gone.

Hawes Children Funeral Today

A family and community will have to say goodbye today to two children after investigators say their own mother stabbed them to death. The viewing will start at 11:00 this morning, and the funeral is at 1:00 in the Whole Life Ministries Chapel. The funeral is open to the public.

Funeral for UGA Student Today

Family and friends are mourning the death of a UGA student and Martinez native. 23-year-old Michael Hendrickson died Saturday at a hospital in Athens from a severe bacterial infection. The funeral is at 2:30 today at Marvin United Methodist Church on Wheeler Road. Hendrickson graduated from Evans High School in 2003.

Fire Investigation

Investigators are still trying to figure out what started a fire at a local construction company. It broke out on Molly Pond Road in Augusta around 8:00 Tuesday night. This is the headquarters for Outdoor Specialist, Inc.
The warehouse was closed at the time, and no one was hurt.

Road Closure

You might need to rethink your route as you head out the door to work or school this morning. Road blocks will prevent you from using Park West Drive between Jimmie Dyess Parkway and Wrightsboro Road in Columbia County. It should be cleared up by 5:00 tonight.
