AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Just weeks after moving into a rental home on Bandler Road in Augusta, Gloria Carter is leaving because she says it is infested with fleas and ticks.
"I'm ate up, ate up. My arms my chest, my legs, everything is ate up," Carter said.
Carter says had she known about the problem, she would never have moved in to the home. She says she only stayed in the house for one day.
"I was told, after I signed the lease and gave him my money, that the prior lady had five cats," Carter said.
News 12 was bitten by fleas while outside the home. Carter says her landlord had the property treated for fleas twice, but says he did nothing to stop the problem.
"If I had knew about the five cats and fleas, I wouldn't have moved here," she said.
News 12 spoke with her landlord, who says he would give Carter her deposit back and some of this month's rent -- but not all of it.
Georgia law says tenants are entitled to a refund of their security deposit within 30 days of lease termination, if there's no damage to the property.
There are no laws requiring a landlord to give a full refund of rental fees. Meanwhile, Carter's landlord told us he would prorate her rent based on the amount of time she has occupied the home.
"Once I hand him the key, I will get my money back. Half and I feel that I should get it all," Carter said.
