MARTINEZ, Ga. (WRDW) -- Freshly bonded out of jail, 45-year old Gregory Glover owner of St. Louis Original Hamburgers on Fury's Ferry Road in Martinez, was back at work.
We tried to speak with him as he arrived at the burger joint, but he told us to speak with his attorney. He is staying tight-lipped about answering any questions about the fraud charge against him.
Glover is accused of using someone else's social security number to try and open a bank account. He turned himself in to authorities last night just hours after we spoke to him by phone.
Glover declined to confirm the business would reopen today at 4pm. But a notice posted on the front door stated it would be back up and running. Hours earlier, our cameras caught an employee cleaning up, possibly in advance of a visit from health officials who showed up to inspect the burger joint.
At one point, Glover called deputies on us alleging that we were on his property but we were not. In recent days a couple of employees claimed that Glover wrote them bad checks and that he still owed employees who no longer work for him.
Burt McDaniel says his 15-year old daughter is one of them. "Her first job she is overwhelmed with it she is so excited she gets her first check and what happens?"
He says she cashed her $115 payroll check only to get a notice from the store she cashed it with that the funds were unavailable. "That she needed to go ahead and make restitution to the check that he had written her for payroll, "says McDaniel.
Adding in that fee for the bad check, McDaniel says his daughter now owes $145. He says he tried to settle the matter with Glover today, but no luck. Now he says he regrets trusting that Glover would make good on the money his daughter earned working at St. Louis Original Hamburgers. "It wasn't taken care of," says McDaniel.
News 12 is awaiting information from the health department regarding how the business did on its report.
