12 OYS: Graniteville neighbors concerned about speeding cars

GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WRDW) -- Ergle Street in Graniteville is a two mile stretch of road, but neighbors like Angel Gore said the road looks more like a drag strip than a country road.

"It concerns me because people are not being mindful of their driving," Gore said.

Signs said 30 miles per hour, but Gore said most drivers ignore the posted speed limit.

"If you could just imagine your kid playing out here in your front yard and losing a ball and down the road, not thinking, you've lost your kid," Gore said.

She fears a scene like in the movie Pet Sematary where a little boy runs into the street to retrieve a kite handle and is run over by a truck, but this is not a movie.

So how fast are folks driving on Ergle Street? We set up our radar gun and waited. It did not take long before some lead foot drivers blew past our camera. One driver was going 42 miles per hour and another, 52 miles per hour.

Apparently, even folks who live in the neighborhood go faster than the posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour. We clocked that driver going 14 miles over the speed limit.

Gore and other neighbors said there is a solution to this speeding problem.

"Maybe put up more signs. I do think they have the speed radar things they could put out here for a while," Gore said.
