AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Harold Jones II is used to sitting in the prosecutor's chair, but now the former solicitor general is looking to occupy a seat in the Senate.

"We have to elect somebody that's talking about issues and have solutions to them," said Jones. He ran for Senate in 2009, but lost that race to now former Senator and Augusta mayoral candidate Hardie Davis.

Jones said if elected, he will tackle two of the biggest issues he said are impacting Augusta's economic progress. Those two things he said are jobs and education.

"When we look at all those issues, they are pressing problems, and that's what brought me back to run for state Senate," said Jones.
We asked Jones who is running for the District 22 seat, why voters should pick a candidate that has no prior experience in the political arena, and how being a prosecutor directly qualifies him for Senate.

"As a prosecutor, I recognize the value of education. Most of the persons that get prosecuted are going to have less than high school education," said Jones. He said without job creation and better education. the problems facing Augusta will not be cured.

He also points to the now vacant Cherry Tree Crossing public housing complex as an example. "The same issues they had still exist. If they didn't have education, those issues follow them wherever they go," said Jones.

He said getting people working and improving educational opportunities are the top two commitments he will work on if voters commit to him on election day.
