Jail Overcrowding

With all of the recent arrests -- you might think overcrowding in jails would be a problem. Lt. Scott Peebles argues jail overcrowding is not going to be a huge issue because 53 of the 71 people arrested in Wednesday's bust are now in federal custody. That means they aren't housed in our local jails. Investigators say, right now, they have 186 prisoners sleeping on the floor. That is better than the 300 they had a short time ago.

Students Arrested

We're learning more about those already behind bars. 3 of them are teenagers right out of high school. We're told agents arrested most of the students before classes started. Of the three students arrested: one attended the Academy of Richmond County, another went to Westside High School, and the third student was a student at Bungalow Road Alternative School.

Superintendent Candidates

We now know the 3 finalists for Aiken County superintendent.
2 of the names may sound familiar. Dr. Frank Roberson's last day as the interim superintendent for Edgefield County was Thursday, but he's in the running for the job in Aiken County. The other candidates are Dr. David Mathis who was competing with incoming Edgefield County Superintendent, Dr. Mary Crenshaw. The 3-rd candidate is Dr. Elizabeth Everitt. She is the superintendent of schools in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The board of education will meet Monday to determine who will take over as Aiken county's new super.

District 25 Recount

Who will take over the senate seat for South Carolina's District 25? The official results will be out later today, but Democrat Bill Clyburn has already congratulated Republican Shane Massey on winning the election.
