Good news: there may be some missing money waiting for you from the Federal Government.
All you have to do is log onto something called the Treasury Hunt.
Every year, around 15,000 savings bonds are returned to the Treasury Department.
And, 25,000 payment checks are returned because of an incorrect address.
So, how do you find out if one of those bonds or checks is yours?
You just need to go to the Treasury Hunt section of the Treasury Department's website. That's where you can look to see if you forgot to cash in a savings bond or maybe had one mailed to an incorrect address.
All you need to do is have your name and a social security number. There's even a way to replace a bond that's either been lost or destroyed.
And, if you think you don't need to check, get this: there are about $15 billion worth of matured savings bonds that have never been cashed.
Just follow this link: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/indiv/tools/tools_treasuryhunt.htm to get started on your Treasury Hunt.
