Body Found

Aiken Public Safety Officers are investigating how a body of an elderly man ended up outside of their own headquarters. They made the discovery just before 11:00 Wednesday night. Preliminary information shows there was a single gun shot wound to the body. Officers also found a small hand gun.

Remains Found

North Augusta Public Safety Officers are now back to work, excavating the human remains officers found Wednesday night. Some people hunting for collectibles in the woods off Austin Graybill Road made the discovery.
Investigators say the body is so badly decomposed, there is no way to tell right now if it is a man, woman, boy or girl. They had to quit excavating last night because it got too dark and too cold, but they're back at it again this morning.

Private Burial for Herring

The Edgefield man who investigators say murdered his wife and stepdaughter, and then turned the gun on himself, will have private burial. Robert Herring is a former Marine, and his family wanted to bury him at the Beaufort National Military Cemetery. After the victims' family fought to strip him of his military honors, his family decided on a private burial instead.

ASU Professor Remembered

Friends and family will remember an Augusta State University professor.
Joseph Greene died this week after a long bout with colon cancer. He's survived by his wife, daughter and son. His viewing will be held at Springfield Baptist Church in Thomson tonight at 7:00. His funeral is Friday at 11:00 at that same church. A memorial service will also be held next Monday at ASU's Maxwell Theatre at 3:00.

News 12 Exclusive: James Brown: Only One Wife?

It's been a messy battle, and now there new developments in the James Brown estate case. Papers filed Wednesday claim the Godfather of Soul's first wife is his only wife. The papers claim James Brown and his first wife Velma Brown never got divorced.

News 12 Exclusive: Mayor Makes Election Choices

A runoff for the Augusta Commission has Mayor Deke Copenhaver picking sides and endorsing candidates. The mayor says he tried to stay out of commission election affairs, but with runoffs in District 2 and 4, he says it is time to step in. His picks are Freddie Handy in District 2 and Alvin Mason in District 4. That runoff is set for December 4th.

Still No Winner in District 25

There's still no winner in the South Carolina District 25 election for a state senate seat. Shane Massey is beating Bill Clyburn, but only 150 votes separate the two candidates. Poll workers will do an official count tomorrow. That's when they'll declare a winner or request a recount.

New Stores Open at Augusta Mall

Just in time for holiday shopping, new stores at the Augusta Mall will open their doors for business today.

Some of those stores include Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, Chico's, Coldwater Creek, J. Jill, Jared's Galleria of Jewelry, McAlister's Deli, The Walking Company, Williams-Sonoma, and White House/Black Market.
