North Augusta man loses home in fire

November 7, 2007

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.---A man has lost his home, but no one was hurt in a fire that destroyed a house and threatened a trailer behind it near the Sweetwater Road/West Five Notch area in Edgefield County.

Merriweather and North Augusta firefighters worked the blaze, which started around 11 o'clock this morning, until around 12:20 pm.

The man was burning trash in his yard. He stepped inside, and seconds later the fire spread to his house, burning it down.

This comes on a day when there's a high fire threat due to low humidity and dew point. That area is in a red flag warning, meaning no one should be burning trash or leaves at all.
