AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- Michelle Creel can live and sleep a little easier.

"I mean, I'm relieved. Like I said, in this neighborhood over here, you constantly have to watch your back," she says.

Thursday afternoon, just a couple houses down on Newberry Street NW, the Aiken Department of Public Safety arrested eleven people, six of them for allegedly trafficking cocaine.

"This street over here is busy non-stop all through the night. I mean, that doesn't stop. I work three shifts: first, second, and third. I can be up at midnight getting ready for work, and it's traffic all night long," says Creel.

Public Safety, along with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and ATF, raided the home. Public Safety says officers recovered more than 20 grams of cocaine, some heroin, and marijuana. Officers also seized three guns, one with a scratched off serial number.

"Cocaine trafficking, distribution of cocaine, and marijuana within half-mile of a school district is about as dangerous as it comes," says Lt. Jake Mahoney with Public Safety.

After raiding the home, officers locked up Akeem Coston, Ahmaad Coston, Joseph Maston, Justin Harris, Jshon Staley, and Saige York. All six are in their twenties or teens. Mahoney says, as officers made those arrests, officers also cuffed up five more for allegedly shouting threats and profanities.

"We can only hope that our message of safe communities and safe streets is getting out. Drug activity, criminal activity, and violence, will just not be tolerated in our city," says Lt. Mahoney

Meanwhile, as Creel gets ready for work, she's a little less worried.

"Honestly, I believe that it sends a strong message that, you know, officers aren't playing anymore. They're serious about cracking down and getting these things off the streets," she says.

Public Safety says three children, ages three, four, and five, were removed from the alleged drug house and taken into South Carolina Department of Social Services custody.
