Stay safe this Halloween

October 31, 2007

As those little ghosts and goblins hit the street tonight in search of candy, parents, experts want you to remember a few things.

Make sure the kids wear light or reflective clothing. Go with face paint rather than masks that could cover your child's eyes.

Teach your kids to stop only at houses or apartments that are well-lit. Map out a route and establish a return time. Also, stay on sidewalks, carry a flashlight, and only cross at corners of the street.

Tell your children to avoid eating treats until they get home so you can inspect the candy. When in doubt, throw it out.

It's also a good idea to pin a slip of paper to your children with their information in case they get separated from the group.
