Deadly Beach House Fire
Seven South Carolina college students are dead this morning after a fire at a beach house in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Six of the students who died are from the University of South Carolina. One went to Clemson. Six others were treated and released from the hospital. Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. They are not releasing the names of any of the victims yet.
Richmond County deputies are looking for two men who robbed a local fast food restaurant. It happened around 11:00 Saturday night at the Zaxby's on the 2600 block of Peach Orchard Road. Both were armed with handguns. Investigators have a pretty vague description of the suspects. They are two black males in their lower to mid 20's. One man was wearing a black bandanna over his face and a black hooded sweatshirt. The other had on a camouflage jacket.
Advance voting for the November 6th General Municipal Election starts today.
The election will fill five seats on the Augusta Commission, two seats on Hephzibah's City Commission, and two on the Blythe City Council. Advance voting lasts through Friday at the Board of Elections, the Henry Brigham Rec Center, and the Warren Road Rec Center. Polls open at 8:30 and close at 6:00.
There are some road closures that may affect your commute this week. Bungalow Road from Peach Orchard Road to Jolles Avenue will be closed starting this morning for about a month. Crews will be making some repairs to water, sewer, and storm drain lines. Also, 8th Street from Walker to Fenwick Street will be closed this week for an event at the James Brown Arena. Finally, Doug Barnard Parkway will be shut down for most of the day today at the International Road railroad crossing. Crews will be replacing a broken rail there.
Cut for a Cure
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Retreat Salon and Spa in Evans will offer a Cut for a Cure today. You can get a hair cut, polish change, a basic massage, or a facial wax in exchange for a donation. All of the money benefits Relay for Life, a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.
Time Change Next Weekend
Normally, you would've gotten an extra hour of sleep this weekend, but instead, you'll get it this coming Sunday. Your clocks will fall back an hour on November 4th for Daylight Savings Time. This past weekend is the usual weekend for the time change, so be sure to check your clocks, cellphones, and computers that do it for you automatically.
