Hans gets life in prison

October 26, 2007

GREENVILLE, S.C.---He killed six people in a hotel fire, including a North Augusta woman. Now Eric Hans will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Jurors were deadlocked over whether to sentence Hans to life in prison or death. The stalemate meant that Hans automatically got the lesser sentence of life in prison without parole.

Hans set the January 2004 blaze at the Comfort Inn in Greenville to get the attention of a dancer with whom he was obsessed.

Alison Barfield of North Augusta was one of the victims of the fire.
