AUGUSTA, Ga.---Big changes almost complete at the Augusta Mall. Construction crews are busy at work putting the final touches on a year-long renovation project. "Oh yes!" says Marci O'Bryan. She is excited about new stores at the Augusta Mall that are set to open just in time for the holidays.
"You can go spend lots of money over there then." says, Marci.
Mall managers say they spent lots of time crafting a wide range of new stores from Dick's Sporting Goods to Ann Taylor's Loft and restaurant's like P.F. Chang China Bistro. It's a move they hope will keep tax dollars here at home. Marketing manager, Erreca White, says, "We really are proud to bring these stores to Augusta so people can shop in Augusta instead of going out of town."
Also, there is a huge economic impact of about 400 new jobs. "400 new jobs that is wonderful. Augusta needs more jobs." says Marci.
"Not only will that help the economy but also it will help people whenever they're thinking about purchasing a home in Augusta." says Walter Sprouse, executive director of the Richmond County Development Authority.
And that's not all. He says, "Not only do they find a good affordable place to live where they can get a job, but now they also have more retail opportunities too so it's a good day." Marci agrees. She says, "I can't wait to see these."
The ribbon cutting is scheduled for November 8, 2007.
