Drugs and guns found at Aiken County home

October 10, 2007

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.---No arrests yet, but lots of drugs and guns were found inside an Aiken County home last night.

Aiken County narcotics investigators found between $3000 and $5000 in cocaine, crack and various ammunition inside a house at 1229 Melody Lane.

It all started when someone called the cops after seeing two men exchanging gunfire with someone on Seymour Drive and then driving off in separate vehicles, a silver Toyota pickup and a black Pontiac. Deputies arrived in the area and found the door open at the Melody Lane home, so they went in to make sure no one was injured inside. At that time they spotted ammunition, a .22 caliber bolt action rifle, a bulletproof vest and cocaine, so they called in narcotics investigators.

The narcotics investigators got a search warrant and found more ammunition and drugs.

This is the first narcotics investigation we know of for Aiken County since four of the five narcotics officers were fired last week. The fifth member of that team is suspended.

Anyone with any knowledge of the alleged shooting or activity in the area is asked to call the sheriff's office at (800) 922-9709.
