North Georgia man killed by deer

October 8, 2007

BALL GROUND, Ga.---A 66-year-old man was found dead inside a deer pen on his property. Officers say the man had been gored several times by the deer's antlers.

The animal was a red deer, not commonly found in Georgia--it's larger than our native deer.

Relatives tell officers the deer had been acting very aggressively lately, most likely because of mating season.

Deer kill about 150 people a year in the United States, but most of those deaths are in vehicle accidents.
