Woman drives car into canal
A woman drove her car over the bridge and into the canal near 8th and Dantignac Streets.

AUGUSTA---Deputies tell News 12 a woman has driven her car into the canal near 8th Street and Dantignac Street, by the University Hospital.

Dispatch says they received the call around 4 a.m.. Deputies believe the woman ran a stop sign and drove over the edge, right into the canal.

The 24-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, according to deputies. She is being taken to the hospital.

Deputies also say alcohol could be a factor in the crash.

The water was drained from the canal at the time of the crash, and crews are working to remove her car from the canal.
