COLUMBIA CTY, Ga.---Investigators have arrested a man accused of taking off after a deputy attempted to stop him this morning near Mullins Crossing.
Daryl Dye was arrested Tuesday evening and was charged with Aggravated Assault, Theft by Receiving, Reckless Driving, Fleeing & Attempting to Elude, and other vehicle charges.
He reportedly drove a stolen 2001 Ford Explorer across four lanes of traffic in an apparent attempt to hit a patrol car, then continued into the shopping center parking lot, where he sideswiped a tractor trailer and a set of stairs. Deputies say Dye then abandoned the SUV.
The Explorer was reported stolen in Richmond County last week. About an hour after this morning's incident, investigators received a call about a stolen 2005 black Nissan Altima on Sweatbrier Drive. Deputies think Dye stole that car after abandoning the SUV.
