AUGUSTA---Two men are in jail charged with shooting an Augusta man in front of his family's home on Forsythe Street. Tremell Walker was killed. Carlton Wadley and Brett Palmer turned themselves in several hours after the incident.
Wadley and Palmer are convicted felons, and deputies say Palmer had been feuding with Walker for a long time. That alleged feud took a deadly turn early this morning, and the Walker family is now dealing with their loss.
"It's just sad, and we're going to miss him," said Barbara Walker, Tremell Walker's aunt. She says a feud between him and his accused killer started a while ago over allegations that Palmer was abusive towards one of Walker's aunts (not Barbara). Officers say the feud got worse earlier this year, when Tremell Walker broke Brett Palmer's arm with a golf club.
Barbara defends her nephew against the allegations. "I feel like he's done what was right, what any other guy would do to protect his sister, aunt, whatever," she said. "He's a great young man."
Neighbors say Palmer and Carlton Ramone Wadley were driving up and down the street on Sunday, taunting Walker. Ms. Martin, one of Walker's neighbors, says, "Sunday afternoon, (Palmer) was throwing sticks at (Walker)." The family says the men left but came back and were hiding behind bushes shortly before Walker was shot.
Palmer and Wadley are charged with murder. They both have a criminal past. Palmer has a history of cocaine possession and battery among other convictions. Wadley has cocaine, marijuana, firearm and assault charges. Both men surrendered to deputies this morning.
The family is thankful the two are off the streets. Barbara says of her nephew, "He didn't deserve it. Justice will be served."
Both men are facing murder and firearm possession charges and may face up to life in prison if convicted.
