AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- Geraldine Johnson, 71, who lived on Clemson Drive died in a fight with her nephew, the coroner said.

It happened just before 11 p.m. off of Whiskey Road in Aiken.
Deputies charged 39-year-old Michael Lynn Thompson Jr. with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime on Sunday.

The entire College Acres neighborhood is in disbelief after the shooting.

Yellow tape seals off the entrance to 56 Clemson Drive, after a quiet Saturday night turned tragic within minutes.

"This has always been a quiet neighborhood," said one neighbor in the College Acres neighborhood.

Last night, that all changed, as dozens of deputy cars littered the area.

"Opened up the windows and saw all of the police cars lined up and down the street," said Carl Zotter who lives just across the street.

When Zotter woke up this morning, he found out just what happened. Deputies say Michael Lynn Thompson Jr, shot and killed a woman after an argument. When deputies arrived, they say they found the woman in the back bedroom with gunshot wounds.

"Never come across as a violent person at all," he said.

Zotter says Thompson was the nephew of the woman killed and also says the witness of it all, was Thompson's son.

"A 13-year-old boy have to witness that and go through that, I can't imagine what's going through his head right now," Zotter said.

Zotter says he knew Thompson, inviting him over for dinner numerous times. But just recently, their communication changed.

"In the last month, we haven't communicated at all, and it kind of was strange to me there," Zotter said.

Thompson did have a prior criminal past. But Zotter and other neighbors would've never realized it, saying he was a kind person, never causing any trouble in the neighorhood.

"I don't know what all happened over there but it's just a shocker to us, it's hard to believe," he said.
