AUGUSTA, Ga. -- An Augusta city worker was arrested for the second time last week.
But he is not just any employee ... he is a manager. There are also concerns about a possible conflict of interest when it comes to the consequences at work.
The incident report tells the story. Matthew Mixon is accused of aggravated stalking after making several threatening phone calls. It is a domestic dispute that could impact his future at work inside Augusta's Information Technology Department.
"It's always tough, but it's part of having employees," said City Administrator Fred Russell. "And everybody has those issues."
We stopped by to speak with Director Tameka Allen about Mixon. His other arrest happened in April for simple battery.
We wanted to know Mixon's status with the city.
"Mr. Mixon is still employed with the city of Augusta," Allen said. "He's actually considered to be on vacation with the city of Augusta."
Allen is deputy administrator and director of Information Technology. As deputy administrator, she is also responsible for overseeing the Human Resources Department. It is an interesting connection that some might call a conflict of interest when it comes to determining Mixon's future.
"No," Allen said, "there are strict guidelines in place to make sure that everything is governed properly. However, to make sure that there is no perceived conflict of interest, I would not have a problem in letting someone else view it and make a final decision."
Mixon was in a Columbia County courtroom on Friday. He was sent to jail.
Russell says Mixon's computer access has been revoked. The city is waiting to see how things proceed in court.
