ATLANTA (AP) -- A line of storms that has proven to be deadly in Mississippi continues to slide our way.

Currently, your News 12 weather team is watching a line of storms track across Alabama toward the CSRA. This squall line (line of strong storms) will likely enter the CSRA between the midnight and 4 a.m. hours and exit the two state region by 7 or 8 a.m.

Ahead of the approaching squall line, you should expect scattered thunderstorms across the CSRA.

Along with the stronger storms after midnight, you should expect the main threat to be strong winds and heavy rain.

However, it's not out of the question to see a few embedded tornadoes drop down or even a little hail.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for parts of north Georgia including the metro Atlanta area.

Forecasters say damaging winds will be the main threat as storms move into Georgia on Thursday. The tornado watch is in effect until 11 p.m.

Forecasters expect a squall line of storms to enter northwest Georgia by late Thursday afternoon or early evening and metro Atlanta Thursday night. The storms will then roll across central Georgia during the late evening and early Friday morning.

Meteorologists say rainfall amounts could be heavy, especially across parts of the north and central Georgia, where widespread areas of up to 2 inches of rain are expected.

The storm is part of a system that downed trees in and knocked out power in west Alabama.
