BEECH ISLAND -- The best gift the Runyon family will open this year came yesterday.

"It was like getting a Christmas present," said Fred Runyon.

Fred describes his excitement about opening his power bill. But it was Aiken Electric, not Santa, that brought the savings. Even with a colder year, they're paying nearly half what they did last year.

Last December the power bill was $312 dollars. Now, it's $157 dollars, with 45 percent less energy usage.

"More comfortable, cheaper. Last year, I had to turn my furnace up to 79 degrees; just keep it fairly warm in here," Fred added.

Aiken Electric installed a new electric water heater, heat pump, new paneling, and new insulation in the attic. The insulation is where the biggest problem lied.

"The heat don't get out now, it stays in."

The home energy makeover provided about $8000 in savings. More money saved means more room for presents under the tree. That's what Michael, Chris, and Laura are really smiling about.

Fred said, "Try to make everybody's life a little bit more happier and easier. I think I can do that."
