ATLANTA (AP) -- Gov. Sonny Perdue has announced a new prescription drug benefit for Georgians who are uninsured but ineligible for Medicare or other forms of public health care.
Perdue said Thursday that Together Rx Access -- created by major pharmaceutical companies -- and the state have launced a special Together Rx Access FOR GEORGIA card that promises savings of 25 to 40 percent on brand-name prescriptions purchased at drug stores.
Officials say savings also are available on a wide range of generics. More than 300 medicines are covered by the program. Among them are drugs to treat high cholesterol, diabetes, depression and asthma.
The card itself is free.
Already, nearly 60,000 Georgians use Together Rx Access cards, according to state officials who say savings have totalled $3.5 million.
