AUGUSTA, Ga.---"It was like this crazy pain I couldn't even think. I was just trying to get it off me, it burned so bad," said Jacob.
16-year-old Jacob Robinson was delivering food for his job when he stopped to ask for directions. That's when he says a guy ran by and threw fireworks into his car window.
"The first thing I tried to do was get out but I had my seatbelt on and it was burning so bad. I reached my hand back there and it exploded," said Jacob.
Jacob has flash burns on his face from the explosion and second and third degree burns on his back and arm. A woman standing on the street saw what was happening and rushed over and used his cell phone to call his mother.
"She said somebody threw a firework in his car and he's burnt, he's burnt," said Tammy Bennett, Jacobs mother.
"I realized how bad my hand was when I looked at it, all my skin was hanging off my arm, it was burnt, my fingernails were gone. Everything was like melted off my arm," said Jacob.
Now as Jacob recovers from life threatening injuries, he still wonders why this had to happen to him.
"I was just like, why would someone do this? I never thought anything like that would happen to me," said Jacob.
Hospital officials say Jacob is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery.
Horry County Police currently do not have a suspect in custody. They are asking if anyone one had any information about the incident to contact them at 843-915-8345.
