AUGUSTA, Ga.---Buying a barbecue dinner took on a whole new meaning today, with all proceeds going to help women fighting cancer.

July is Lydia Month at Earth Fare market in Augusta, so today, the Lydia Project sold the pork plates, their signature monogrammed handbags, and cookbooks to help with the effort.

News 12 talked to one volunteer who has seen firsthand how their work has helped those trying to cope with the disease.

"Being a volunteer for the Lydia Project is an amazing experience," Brooke Skelley told News 12. "This morning a woman came up and said, 'I got this note from this girl named Brooke,' and it was from me...that was cool to interact with someone we are serving."

This is only the start of it. The Lydia Project says they'll continue to sponsor more events this month at the store. Next Friday (July 18), they'll sponsor a wine, cheese, and chocolate tasting from 5 to 8 p.m.
