SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A lab in Tennessee says waste from a former nuclear weapons complex in South Carolina meets Utah's health and safety requirements for disposal.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert ordered testing of the depleted uranium from the Savannah River Site in January.

Herbert's request came after an environmental group said it reviewed shipping manifests for some of the waste and found the barrels contained concentrations higher than state law allows EnergySolutions Inc. to accept at is facility about 70 miles west of Salt Lake City.

Utah's Department of Environmental Quality says test results returned Monday show the material meets state standards.

Eberline Services, Inc. of Oak Ridge, Tenn. analyzed 171 samples randomly collected from the 5,400 drums.
