AUGUSTA -- Going green is all the rage these days and some folks are getting paid to do it. And you can earn a little extra money by helping the environment too.
Carpooling makes a lot of sense. You save gas and some wear and tear on your car. Not to mention that you don't have to do all the driving. Getting paid to do it almost sounds too good to be true. But it's not.
Rita Stevens is one of tens of millions of Americans who drives to work everyday by herself. But she's looking to change her habits.
"I think it will definitely be good for commuting to conserve gas and keep clean air." she said.
Rita is one of a number of employees at ADP signing up with the clean air campaign.
The Clean Air Campaign is not-for-profit that's joining forces with a number of companies around the Augusta area.
"If they have a similar commute to yours, your info will be matched with theirs and you have a potential list of car pool partners" a Clean Air Campaign employee explained.
It's goal is to try to encourage people to take alternative ways to work that don't include driving alone.
"Clean air is what we need. To do that we need more cars off the road." said Tanika Mason, manager of the Augusta office of the Clean Air Campaign.
"We've got some incentives to get people to do a clean commute and change their behavior to get them to bike, walk or take transit." she told us.
You could earn $3 a day for 3 months, a $25 gift card or gas gift cards. So that way you can earn extra cash and save thousands on your gasoline bill. Just like Rita plans to.
"I'm excited about that." she said.
